Guarding biodiversity plays a symphony of harmony and symbiosis among all things

In recent years, Daqing Oilfield has carried out ecological restoration through nature based solutions (NbS), forming the experience of "planting trees at high places, storing water at low places, and self propagating reeds in transitional zones" in the ecological restoration of wetlands in Northeast China.

The Guowu Lake, which used to be flooded with sewage and littered with garbage, has become a self contributing biodiversity conservation site. Its case study was included in the "Other Effective Regional Conservation Measures (OECMs) China Status Study Report" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) China Representative Office, and was officially released at the Asian Conservation Forum in September 2024. At the same time, it was released globally on the IUCN official website.

In the past year, China National Petroleum Corporation has comprehensively promoted the construction of OECM, carried out systematic and large-scale biodiversity conservation through the "four in one" approach, and promoted the group company to achieve synergy between climate change and biodiversity conservation.

Publish two batches of self contributing biodiversity conservation sites. On August 15, 2024, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) announced the establishment of seven self contributing biodiversity conservation sites in the second batch. As of now, PetroChina has established a total of 10 OECMs nationwide, covering an area of 4018.8 hectares, becoming the world's first well-known enterprise to successfully carry out OECM practices.

Among them, the self contributing biodiversity conservation site in Su 6 area of Sulige gas field in Changqing Oilfield was selected as one of the first batch of "OECMs China Potential Cases" and became a selected case by a central enterprise. In this protected area, Changqing Oilfield Gas Production Plant 4 has carefully arranged "new homes" for more than 110 young Black Grampus seedlings, and also placed 100 bird nests on adult Black Grampus trees, providing a natural habitat for zx birds in the protected area.

Build the first batch of green shared cabins. In 2024, China Petroleum will establish five green shared cabins in Daqing Oilfield, Tarim Oilfield and other units, and comprehensively carry out science popularization education on biodiversity conservation. Wu Xinsheng, the person in charge of the "Wenfeng Luyuan" green shared cabin of Hainan Natural Gas Sales Company, stated that they will continue to convey the concept of green living to the public and build the green shared cabin into an "ecological relay station" that connects people and nature, and consolidates the environmental protection strength of enterprises.

The first phase of the comprehensive monitoring project for biodiversity has been completed and put into operation. In the past year, China National Petroleum Corporation has actively built a comprehensive monitoring network system for biodiversity conservation, and the first phase of the biodiversity comprehensive monitoring project jointly built with Huawei has been completed and put into operation. At present, PetroChina has set up 8 monitoring points in three protected areas, Daqing Oilfield and Huabei Oilfield, achieving 24-hour on-site animal video collection and image feedback, as well as multi-dimensional analysis and dynamic visualization display of the collected data.

Establish a volunteer team for biodiversity conservation. In 2024, China Petroleum established 9 volunteer service teams consisting of 135 people in Daqing Oilfield, Changqing Oilfield, Tarim Oilfield, and Hainan Natural Gas Sales Company, responsible for serving as tour guides for green shared cabins and inspectors for OECMs. I want to contribute to 'green' and add more beautiful colors to the yellow desert, "said Zhang Xiyue, an assistant equipment engineer at the Tarim Oilfield Tazhong Oil and Gas Management Area, with a smile as a volunteer.
